20 Weeks Pregnant
Welcome to week 20 of pregnancy. Your baby is now about the size of a banana — roughly 25.6 cm from crown to rump and around 300 grams. Below: what is developing, what you may be feeling, and the appointments that belong to this week.

| Size comparison | About the size of a banana |

What's developing
- You are at the halfway point. The anatomy scan (18–22 weeks) checks every major structure.
- The fetus swallowing amniotic fluid practices digestion and helps regulate fluid volume.
- A greasy coating called vernix caseosa protects the skin from the amniotic bath.
You at 20 weeks
- Appetite usually returns to normal or increases.
- Round ligament pains — brief stabbing sensations at the sides — are common as the uterus grows.
- You may start feeling flutters of movement (earlier for second pregnancies).
This week's checklist
- Book the anatomy scan if not already scheduled.
- Start thinking about maternity leave timelines and provider conversations.
- Halfway through the IOM weight-gain target range is a reasonable check-in.
